Dental Emergencies

Accidents happen to everyone – and they typically do not happen at convenient times. Dental emergencies are no different. Any time there is injury to the teeth or gums it can be a potentially serious situation, and people should go to the dentist as soon as possible. Ignoring an oral injury can increase the risk of permanent damage as well as the likelihood for extensive (and expensive) dental treatment later on. At Pure Dental Health in Buckhead, we understand that all dental emergencies need prompt treatment. That is why we offer same day dental appointments and extended hours during the week and on Saturday. Please do not ignore any type of pain in your mouth; doing so only makes things more difficult for you and your dentist.

Toothaches often indicate decay, infection, or abscess is present. It is important to have any sort of toothache examined by a dentist for prompt treatment so that the cause does not spread to other teeth. Chipped or broken teeth are extremely common in children and adults. Whether they are chipped during a sporting activity or broken by biting down on a hard substance, chipped teeth require quick treatment in order to repair the tooth the most effectively. A tooth that has been completely knocked out of the mouth is considered to be the highest dental emergency. There is a very short span of time where the tooth can be reset in the mouth so that it has a chance of reattaching itself. One must retrieve the knocked out tooth, holding it by the crown, rinse it off with water, and then try to put the tooth back in place. If it will not go back in place, put the tooth in a cup with saliva or milk. It is essential that a dental professional address this situation immediately.

There are many other dental emergencies (e.g. lost filling, lost crown, broken braces, etc.) that can occur at inopportune times. It is important to never ignore a dental emergency because of the impact that it can have on the entire mouth. Whether you have a dental emergency that needs attention or you are looking for a practice to trust with your dental care needs, Pure Dental Health is the name to trust in Buckhead. Call today for the next available appointment.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Many people look in the mirror each day and wish that they could improve their smiles. They sigh and look away, continuing on their way without realizing that there are many improvements that can be made to create a stunning smile. At Pure Dental Health in Buckhead, GA, our cosmetic dental care services are designed with our patients in mind. We understand that a less than stellar smile can cause a person’s confidence to dwindle and create an unwanted first impression. Dr. Justin Scott and Dr. Lydia Muccioli utilize their expertise alongside the latest advances in cosmetic dentistry technologies to give patients the smiles they have always wanted.

Many cosmetic dental procedures are considered “quick fixes” that have lasting results. While teeth whitening has been around for decades, it is still one of the easiest and most dramatic methods of enhancing a person’s smile. Even slightly misaligned teeth look noticeably improved when they are bright white. For those whose teeth are crooked, chipped, broken, or extremely discolored, there are other advanced options. Porcelain veneers and Invisalign braces offer long-lasting corrections to teeth that need more than just whitening up. Other options, such as crowns and bridges, are also available on a case-by-case basis to improve needed function and appearance.

If you are currently unhappy with your smile and wish to improve its appearance, contact Pure Dental Health today to schedule an appointment for consultation. Our office offers posh amenities and a warm, relaxing atmosphere to help patients feel at ease and like they have visited a spa, not a dental office. Our patients come first in everything we do, and our goal is to help each one achieve the perfect smile.

Gum Disease

Gum disease begins with subtle signs that are often ignored. Red, tender, swollen gums that bleed easily when brushing are telltale signs that gum disease has started in the mouth. As foods and beverages breakdown in the mouth, plaque forms on the teeth. When plaque is not removed from the teeth it hardens and begins eating away at the tooth enamel. Proper oral hygiene at home combined with regular dental cleanings and checkups are necessary to remove damaging plaque before it destroys the teeth. At Pure Dental Health in Buckhead, Dr. Justin Scott and his staff provide comprehensive dental care including prevention and treatment for gum disease.

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” is how the old adage goes, and this can apply to oral health as much as anything else. Preventing gum disease is relatively simple, yet millions of Americans are diagnosed with gum disease every year. Gum disease is a result of damaging plaque that builds up on the teeth and is not removed. When left on the teeth, plaque eats away at the gums causing the structure to become compromised. Gums support the teeth in the mouth, and when they are damaged from disease they do not have the strength needed to hold the teeth in place.

Brushing and flossing remove plaque from the teeth between dental visits. However, it is important to note that brushing AND flossing remove plaque – not just brushing. Toothbrush bristles cannot fit into the tight spaces between the teeth. Plaque and food particles left between the teeth will quickly grow in this environment. Therefore, using the preventive methods at home of good oral hygiene and visiting the dentist twice a year are crucial components for preventing gum disease.

If you are looking for a dental practice to call your own in the Buckhead area, or if you are suffering from the symptoms of gum disease, call Pure Dental Health today to schedule an appointment. We offer high quality, affordable dental care for all of patients.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are a preventive dental treatment used to seal the teeth and act like a barrier to prevent cavities. A plastic material is placed in the pits and fissures of the molars and premolars to prevent bacteria from growing in these hard to clean areas. At Pure Dental Health we offer dental sealants to our patients to help protect their teeth from decay. While flossing and brushing are extremely important to oral health, they only help to remove food particles and plaque from the smooth surfaces of the teeth. However, toothbrush bristles are too large to reach into the grooves and depressions of the molars to remove food and plaque. Dental sealants protect these vulnerable spots in the teeth by sealing out damaging plaque and bacteria.

Dental sealants are easy for dentists to apply, pain free, and require no down time from patients. After the teeth have been thoroughly cleaned, the sealant is painted onto the tooth enamel and then hardened with a curing light so that it bonds directly to the tooth. The special plastic material seeps into the tiny fissures and grooves of the chewing surfaces, forming a tight barrier against harmful substances in the mouth. As long as the dental sealant remains in place the tooth will be protected from decay. Dr. Justin Scott will examine the sealants to make sure they have bonded properly, and he will check to make sure they are still properly in place at subsequent dental visits. Dental sealants can last for two to four years before a reapplication is necessary, making them both affordable and worth the expense.

At Pure Dental Health, Dr. Scott and his entire team are committed to proving the highest standard in dental care. Using dental sealants as an advanced preventive dental procedure, he can offer protection against damaging plaque, bacteria, and decay. Call our office today to schedule an appointment to make your smile last.
