Tips on Getting a Red-Carpet Smile with Invisalign

Atlanta GA Invisalign Braces ProviderThere are many great options for achieving a red-carpet smile these days. Orthodontics have come a long way since they were introduced to patients more than 2,000 years ago. For years in America, orthodontic patients only had the option of wearing metal braces for two to four years in order to correct their smile. While this was often seen as a “rite of passage” for adolescents and teens, it was rarely appreciated by adults who were not able to undergo orthodontic treatment at a young age. Traditional metal braces are still not an ideal option for many because of professional reasons, athletic involvement, or convenience. That is what makes Invisalign® clear aligners such a great option for those who want to achieve a red-carpet smile but who do not want to use traditional metal brackets and wire braces.

Invisalign® is a specific orthodontic treatment that uses a series of aligners to move the teeth into their desired positions. These aligners provide a more comfortable and convenient method of orthodontics because they are removable while eating and cleaning the teeth, and they do not require the discomfort of tightening metal wires inside the mouth. To ensure that you are getting the most out of your Invisalign® treatment, the following tips will help you straighten your teeth as quickly and successfully as possible.

  • Floss your teeth every single day. While brushing your teeth may be a habit that you rarely have to think about doing, flossing is often an overlooked dental habit. Floss helps to remove bacteria-laden plaque from the gum line and between the teeth. Because Invisalign® aligners fit snuggly against your teeth, any grime that is stuck between the teeth and/or at the gum line will be trapped. Flossing your teeth every single day will help to keep your teeth and gums clean and healthy.
  • Wear your aligners at least 22 hours every day. In order for your Invisalign® aligners to do their job efficiently and successfully, they must be worn at least 22 hours a day. This means that unless your aligners are removed because you are eating or cleaning your teeth and aligners, they should be in your mouth. The aligners cannot and will not work if they are not inside your mouth!
  • Stick to your prescribed schedule. Every patient is given a schedule to follow for wearing their Invisalign® aligners. Because the aligners work in a series, gradually changing each time you put new aligners inside your mouth, it is important to stick to the schedule. Most patients switch out their aligners for new ones every two weeks. Some patients have a different schedule due to specific concerns. It is important that you adhere to the schedule in order to see your desired results. If your dentist tells you to wear your new set of aligners an extra week, there is good reason and you should do it. If you are supposed to change aligners every two weeks, then set a reminder to remind you to change your aligners. You will not achieve the red-carpet results that you desire if you do not stick to the prescribed schedule for changing your smile. It is also important to note that you will not make your treatment go faster by skipping ahead to new aligners before you are supposed to. In fact, this can actually make your treatment slow down because missing a step can mess up your progress.
  • Do not give up on your aligners. At first, your aligners will feel strange and foreign inside your mouth. This is normal. You may speak with a lisp for a few days, your mouth may be a little sore, or your aligners may just aggravate you – but do not give up! The more you wear your aligners, they more natural they will feel inside your mouth.
  • Clean your aligners daily. It is not advised to brush your aligners with toothpaste as this can scratch the plastic, but it is important to clean them each day. Putting dirty aligners into your mouth will only cause your teeth to be dirty and your gums to become infected. The best way to clean Invisalign® aligners is with warm water and antibacterial soap.
  • Commit to wearing your retainer. Once your Invisalign® treatment is complete and you have achieved the red-carpet smile you dreamed about, it is up to you to maintain it. Most patients will receive a retainer to wear for a few months. This retainer is what holds your teeth in their new position. Do not ruin your brand-new smile by choosing not to wear your retainer.

At Pure Dental Health, we are proud to offer Invisalign® orthodontic treatment to patients who wish to improve the appearance of their smiles. Please contact our practice to schedule a consultation appointment to learn whether you are a good candidate for Invisalign® or whether another option is more suited for your needs. We look forward to helping you achieve that red-carpet smile you have been dreaming of!

Four Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures that Make Great Smiles

Atlanta GA Cosmetic DentistryYour smile is a recognizable feature of who you are, and it leaves a lasting impression on those you encounter – whether it be day to day or on a chance meeting. Because your smile is an integral feature of your facial appearance, feeling confident in your smile has a great impact on others around you. If you are known for easily sharing your smile with others, people view you as friendly, confident, out-going, and as someone they are happy to be around. However, if your dissatisfaction with your smile keeps you from sharing it with others, people may often view you as standoffish, cold, unfriendly, and hard to please. Understanding how your smile affects not only your appearance, but also your relationships with others, can help you make the decision to seek out cosmetic dentistry procedures.

For years, many people associated a beautiful smile with Hollywood celebrities and the “elite” in society. However, today, there are options available to people in all areas of life who wish to enhance their smiles. Four cosmetic dentistry procedures that make great smiles are:

  • Teeth whitening
  • Dental veneers
  • White fillings
  • Six Month Smiles®

Teeth whitening is the most popular cosmetic procedure done in the United States, period. As a dental procedure, dentists have continued to see a rise in the number of patients who request this cosmetic dentistry procedure. Millions of Americans have had great success transforming their smiles by simply brightening and whitening their teeth. Even those whose teeth are not perfectly straight can achieve remarkable benefits from teeth whitening. A bright, white smile is a clean smile that is healthy in appearance; attracting others to your presence. For most people, teeth whitening is a simple cosmetic dentistry procedure that is inexpensive and quick.

Dental veneers are another option for dramatically improving the appearance of your smile. Dental veneers are very thin porcelain shells that are permanently bonded to the existing surface of the front of the teeth in order to restore or improve the tooth’s appearance. Most people are good candidates as long as there is enough tooth enamel available to bond the veneers to. Dental veneers are used to close gaps in the front teeth and hide flaws such as chipped or broken teeth, malformed teeth, and stained or discolored teeth. Porcelain dental veneers are a permanent solution that can completely transform the entire appearance of a person’s smile, or that can be used to treat a single tooth so that it matches the other natural teeth.

White fillings, also known as composite fillings, are tooth colored fillings used to restore cavities and decayed teeth. White fillings provide an ideal solution for those who need to have a cavity filled within their front teeth. As these teeth are the most noticeable, using white fillings helps to hid dental work. Aside from simply filling new cavities so that they are not noticeable inside the mouth, many people are choosing to replace their old, amalgam fillings. Amalgam fillings are made from liquid mercury, powdered silver, tin, and copper. Many people believe that they suffer poor health from having these amalgam fillings inside their mouths for extended periods of time; thus, they are replacing them with white fillings.

Six Month Smiles® are braces for adults that focus major improvements on the front teeth. Traditional braces can take between two to three years to complete their transformation of a person’s smile. That means that adults have to suffer through that length of time wearing metal brackets and wires on their teeth that make it obvious that you are undergoing orthodontic treatment and the constant requirement for adjustments and visits to the dentist. With Six Month Smiles® dental patients are able to achieve a beautifully straight smile that they are proud to show off to those around them.

At Pure Dental Health, we offer cosmetic dentistry procedures at competitive prices. The health and satisfaction of our patients are our highest priorities. We accept most forms of dental insurance and offer extended hours to allow working professionals time to visit our office before or after a traditional work schedule. We also proudly offer financing and payment options for patients whose dental insurance does not cover the cosmetic procedure that they wish to have done. Please contact our office today.

CEREC Same Day Dental Crowns

Atlanta GA Same Day Dental CrownsTraditional dental crowns have been used for decades to repair a cracked or broken tooth. While this method has had great success for the patients’ oral health, multiple dental visits were needed to create a perfect crown for each individual mouth. This required time, patience, and flexibility on the patients’ part that is not always easy to achieve. Tight work schedules, travel inconveniences, and being left with a temporary (and often uncomfortable) crown was never an ideal situation for patients who needed to receive a dental crown. At Pure Dental Health, we are pleased to offer same day dental crowns with our latest technology: CEREC.

Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics (CEREC) uses CAD/CAM technology to develop and create customized dental crowns in a single dental visit. Essentially, the CEREC system allows dental crowns to be a chairside treatment, particularly for those who need only a single tooth restoration. CEREC can create precise restorations for multiple teeth in a single visit as well, it will simply take a bit longer. The CEREC system uses Computer Aided Design (CAD) technology to take an accurate picture of the damaged tooth and transfers the “optical impression” to a computer screen. From here, the dentist uses CAD to design the custom restoration. The Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) takes over and automatically creates the restoration.

How CEREC works:

The technology of CEREC allows Pure Dental Health to further meet the needs of their patients with accurate and fast dental crowns. For patients who come in for a dental emergency or who have made an appointment for a dental crown, the process is no longer a grand ordeal. Our streamlined development of customized crowns utilizes the accuracy of CEREC to create a dental restoration with as little disruption to your day as possible. For a single tooth restoration, the entire process takes around an hour. Our dental staff can economically restore damaged teeth in a single appointment using a high-quality ceramic material that matches the natural color of the teeth.

CEREC uses Computer Aided Technology that incorporates a camera, computer, and milling machine in one instrument. The specialized camera is used to take an accurate picture of the damaged tooth and the surrounding tissue and neighboring teeth. This “picture” is the optical impression, making the need for messy and uncomfortable biting impressions no longer necessary. The optical impression is then transferred and displayed on a color computer screen, where the dentist uses CAD technology to accurately design the restoration. Once the design has been created and it has been “placed” on the computer screen to ensure proper fit with the mouth structure, the CAM takes over and automatically creates the restoration while the patient waits. Once the milling of the restoration is complete, the dentist will bond the new restoration to the surface of the old tooth. The restoration will have a precise fit, and it will match the natural color of the neighboring teeth so that it will be undetectable inside the mouth.

With this technology, patients no longer have to feel self-conscious about silver fillings that discolor their smiles. This revolutionary technology also eliminates the need for multiple dental visits, making it much more convenient to the patient. The research, documentation to support, and proven success of CEREC technology have opened the door for precise, safe, and effective dental restorations.

Pure Dental Health is proud to offer this amazing technology to all of our patients. We strive to provide excellence throughout all of our dentistry services, and CEREC is just our latest approach in our goal of optimal dentistry.

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are an excellent solution for correcting imperfections in people’s smiles. At Pure Dental Health we are proud to offer porcelain dental veneers to patients in Buckhead, Atlanta, and the greater metropolitan area. Dr. Justin Scott is a comprehensive dentist who is experienced and talented when it comes to creating beautiful and long-lasting smiles with dental veneers. Dental veneers can dramatically enhance people’s smiles and overall facial appearance, and they can also significantly improve people’s self confidence – making them proud to show off their pearly whites.

Dental veneers are a cosmetic dental procedure that was originally created to be an alternative for adults who did not want to wear braces. Because many adults find themselves in front of their peers in professional and personal situations, having a mouth full of metal can be highly undesired. Porcelain dental veneers are very thin shells that are bonded to the front surfaces of the teeth in order to dramatically change their appearance. This cosmetic dental procedure can be used to correct the following:

• Gapped teeth

• Broken teeth

• Cracked or chipped teeth

• Slightly crooked or misaligned teeth

• Teeth that are severely discolored or stained

• Irregularly shaped teeth

Porcelain veneers are a more financially appealing option as well as a time consuming option for those who wish to have a “quick fix” to the appearance of their smiles. Pure Dental Health offers porcelain veneers for a competitive price, and we accept most forms of dental insurance. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your teeth and want to learn more about porcelain dental veneers, please contact Pure Dental Health today. We look forward to getting to know you and helping make your smile the best that it can be.

Teeth Whitening

Your face is the first thing people recognize when they look at you, and you want to make a good impression on those around you. If your smile is dull, discolored, or stained it can detract from your overall appearance. White teeth are an enviable asset – they make a person look fresher, younger, and more beautiful. At Pure Dental Health we are proud to offer patients teeth whitening procedures in order to help them achieve the bright smile they have always wanted.

Cosmetic teeth whitening is a non-invasive procedure that can have dramatic results. While many people have tried whitening their smiles at home with teeth whitening strips, teeth whitening toothpastes, and other gimmicks, only a dentist can provide a professional whitening treatment. At Pure Dental Health, we are teeth whitening experts, and we will evaluate your smile to determine the safest, most effective teeth whitening procedure to use in order to achieve your desired results. Unlike many at home products, we use teeth whitening products that offer outstanding whitening results without excessive tooth sensitivity. Gum Contouring? What is It?

Do you dread smiling for the camera due to excess gum tissue that shows when you smile?  Are you self-conscious of your “gummy” smile?  If so, read on to find out about gum contouring.

Gum contouring is a cosmetic dental procedure that can be used to improve the appearance of “gummy” smiles.  If your teeth look short and stubby because your gum tissue extends over your enamel, you may be a a good candidate for gum contouring.  During this procedure, a dentist or periodontist uses either a laser or some type of cutting tool to remove excess tissue, thereby exposing more of the teeth.  This procedure can be completed in just one office visit using a local anesthetic.  The recovery time after gum contouring is typically quite short.  In some cases, bone must be removed in addition to excess tissue.  This procedure is more extensive and may necessitate more extensive anesthesia.  This procedure also requires a longer healing period.

The results of gum contouring are immediate and can be dramatic in many cases.  Sometimes, this procedure is combined with other cosmetic dental procedures such as teeth whitening, orthodontics, bonding and shaping.

With today’s advances in cosmetic dentistry, it is possible for virtually everyone to achieve a beautiful, balanced smile.  If you dislike the appearance of your smile due to excess gums, maybe it is time to schedule a consultation with a qualified cosmetic dentist.  After a thorough evaluation, an experienced cosmetic dentist can recommend the treatment or combination of treatments that are best suited to help you achieve your goals while staying within your budget.
