Dental Headache Treatments ,

If you suffer from chronic headaches or even migraines, you may want to talk to your dentist.  Many times, chronic headaches or migraines are caused by clenching or grinding your teeth at night when you sleep.  You may not even realize that you are doing it.  A dentist can examine your teeth and help determine if this is the cause of your headaches.

If you do grind or clench your teeth at night, your dentist may want to fit you with a night mouth guard.  Although night guards are available for sale over the counter at drug stores and other outlets, a custom made night guard fitted by a qualified dentist is going to be more comfortable to wear and  more effective in preventing the clinching and grinding that is causing your headaches.  Custom-fitted mouth guards are individually designed and made in a dental office or a professional laboratory based on your dentist’s instructions.  The process requires making an impression of your teeth and then forming a mold over the impression using a special material.  Due to the extra time and work involved in making a custom night mouth guard, they are more expensive than the ready-to-wear guards that can be purchased in stores. However, the added comfort and protection you gain with a custom-made night mouth guard may be worth the extra cost.

There are currently several types of custom-made mouth guards available on the market.  The NTI night guard system is one of them.  This dental appliance is much smaller than typical night mouth guards and is more comfortable to wear.  For more information about the NTI night guard system and to determine if this system is right for you, talk to your dentist today.
