What is CEREC and Why is it Important?

At Pure Dental, we use the latest and most technologically advanced equipment. CEREC stands for Ceramic Reconstruction and is a sophisticated system of designing and making high-quality dental restorations in one patient visit. Developed by Sirona, CEREC utilizes 3D photography and CAD/CAM technology to assist a dentist in designing a virtual restoration (onlay, inlay, crown, or bridge) without taking impressions and, when combined with a milling unit, is able to build the actual restoration while you are still in the chair.

Sure, it’s cool. But more important, and the one driving our decision to have one, was the value to you. In addition to cutting down on the number of visits and the time interval of waiting to get back from an outside lab, there’s no need for messy impressions, and there’s no need to wear a temporary crown for two weeks (that could possibly crack or break and result in even more office visits!). This all translates to savings of money and time for you.

Advanced CEREC Same Day Crown Technology

To provide our patients with the highest quality dental crowns in one visit, we use CEREC technology to design and create new dental crowns right in our office. Traditional crowns use physical impressions made of the prepared tooth that are sent away to a lab to create the crown, requiring at least two visits. With CEREC same-day crowns, there are no messy or uncomfortable impressions to make – advanced imagery and design equipment is used to make the new custom crown right in our office.

To create your new crown, our team will scan the prepared tooth using digital imagery. The CEREC imagery equipment creates a 3-D image of your tooth, a blueprint to create the right size and shape. This image is sent to the milling unit which begins to create a beautiful ceramic dental crown for your tooth. Once the crown is milled, it will be fitted to your tooth. Any adjustments will be made and then the crown is bonded to your tooth and polished. Instead of a week or longer to get your new crown while you live with a temporary crown, the entire process takes about an hour.
